Remembering a day when the Azzurri were not as lucky in their penalty kicks. They lost this semi-final match to Argentina (who eventually lost to West Germany). Italy’s opponent in the third place match, England, had also lost their semi-final match on penalties to the Germans. Italy beat England in that match as well, but they managed to do it without extra time/penalties.
Also-Maldini is 21 here, but he looks EXACTLY the same as when he retired.
Azzurri to face Argentina in the semifinal of World Cup 1990:
Walter Zenga, Paolo Maldini, Fernando de Napoli, Riccardo Ferri, Beppe Bergomi; Franco Baresi, Giuseppe Giannini, Roberto Donadoni, Toto Schillaci, Gianluca Vialli, Luigi de Agostini
